Small Town Travel
There are very few small towns left in America. Travelers often miss out on amazing sights and experiences, simply because they are secrets well kept. Some of the best small towns Ive ever been to are in New Hampshire.
In the White mountains there is a tiny town called Littleton. This town is so often looked over my travelers and locals alike, because it doesnt seem to have much to offer. However, what Littleton does boast is a thriving downtown area. The restaurants in the area have been local favorites for generations they boast a home cooked menu, and a community atmosphere. In the downtown area there is also Chutters General Store, which is home to a world record holding candy counter. Chutters offers the candy aficionado a selection that ranges from penny candy to gourmet fudge. There is also a book store, a yarn store, multiple boutiques, and a good old fashion head shop complete with a tattoo parlor downstairs.
A little bit past Littleton is the town of Bath, which doesnt have anything in it besides houses, a covered bridge, and the countrys oldest General Store. The Bath General Store is also called the Brick Store. Its brick front doesnt seem like much, and even inside it is unassuming, but this store has been around longer than most for a reason. Inside they have maple syrup from farms all over the region, giving you a choice. They also have maple syrup candy, which melts in your mouth and leaves your tongue coated with sugar. They also have dried pepperoni and jerky that they make themselves. You can also find souvenirs and post cards. The best part about Bath is the memories you will have. I have a photograph of my siter and me on the front steps of bath in the fall. They had out two pumpkin headed scarecrows. Just recently I took my children there, and took the same picture with them.
These are just the small towns in the area, the people are fantastic, and the natural beauty is something to behold. Oh, and Ill give you a local secret. On the road in between Littleton and a small town named Lisbon, there is a pipe coming out of the mountain. Coming out of that pipe is the cleanest, freshest water you will ever taste.
